Rooftop Solar – Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions please feel free to connect with us

What is a rooftop solar system?

A rooftop solar system uses solar panels installed on your roof to convert sunlight into electricity for your home. The system typically includes solar panels, an inverter, mounting structure, and safety components.

How much can I reduce my electricity bill with solar?

A properly sized rooftop solar system can significantly reduce or even eliminate your electricity bills by generating power during the day and offsetting grid consumption

How much roof space is required for solar panels?

On average, about 80–100 sq. ft. of shadow-free roof area is needed per kW of solar capacity. The exact requirement depends on panel efficiency and roof layout.

What is net metering and how does it work?

Net metering allows you to export excess solar power to the electricity grid and receive credit for it. Your electricity bill is calculated based on the net energy consumed from the grid after subtracting solar generation.

Are there government subsidies available for rooftop solar?

Yes. Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, households can receive subsidies ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹78,000 depending on system size, making solar more affordable for homeowners.

Do solar panels work during cloudy or rainy weather?

Yes. Solar panels still produce electricity using diffused sunlight during cloudy or rainy conditions, although output may be lower compared to sunny days.

How much maintenance do rooftop solar systems require?

Solar systems require very little maintenance. Cleaning the panels every few months and periodic inspection helps maintain optimal efficiency.

What factors affect solar power generation?

Solar energy generation depends on factors such as location, roof orientation, shading, panel efficiency, and weather conditions.

Is rooftop solar suitable for my home?

Any home with a stable roof structure, sufficient sunlight exposure, and an electricity connection can install rooftop solar and benefit from reduced electricity bills.

Can I run my home completely on solar power?

Yes, depending on system size and energy consumption. Many homeowners combine solar with the grid or battery storage to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

How long does it take to install a rooftop solar system?

Most residential solar systems can be installed and commissioned within 1–3 weeks, including approvals and net-metering processes.
